FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (About Erwin’s GED Program)

Do you have evening classes?
No. Check the local high schools for evening classes.

What are the hours for GED?
8:30 A.M. – 2:00 P.M. Lunch is 11:00-12:00.

How much does it cost?
The class is free.

How long will it take for me to get my GED?
Former students have completed the program in as little time as a month or as long as eighteen months, depending on motivation and ability. The average student takes three to four months.

How do I sign up for GED?
You must take a placement test at Erwin called the TABE Test in Room 142. This test is given at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. The test lasts approximately two-and-one-half hours. Bring a picture ID to testing, and be on time (testing will not admit anyone who is late!) A counselor or TRC instructor will explain your scores. Scores will be evaluated for GED and Pre-GED placement.

What if I am absent?
Attendance is very important. TRC’s attendance policy will be explained during registration.

Will text books be provided?
We use a variety of learning materials in GED. We have books in the classroom to use and you can purchase some books in the school bookstore.

Is there homework?
Yes, homework is available if you want it. Students who study at school and at home complete the program quicker.

I haven’t been in school for a while, will I feel out of place?
No. We have all ages and backgrounds in class. We are like a family.

What should I bring to class?
Come prepared daily with paper and pencils.

Is there a dress code or student identification?
Yes, we have a dress code. Students are also expected to wear ID badges at all times.
