Student Services

Student Services has full-time, certified occupational specialists and counselors availabe to assist with career planning and personal growth. A licensed school psychologist and school social worker are also available part-time.

Job Placement

A job placement specialist assists students with resume writing, interviewing techniques, and job inquiries. Employers can post their current job openings at no charge by calling the Job Placement Office at 813.231.1817.

Job Placement services are available on the following days:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
(Wednesday: Scheduled appointments only)

Career Planning

Career Planning is provided to help individuals choose or confirm realistic career goals. It is a flexible program designed according to the needs of the individual. Individuals are provided with information about the center's training programs through videos, classroom visitations and discussions with counselors, instructors and students.

Information is also provided concerning local job markets, pay scales and limitations (if any) imposed by working conditions. Recommendations are then made regarding technical training or upgrading of academic skills.

The Learning Center

The Learning Center provides support services for Erwin's training programs. Adult students who have decided on a technical goal, but lack the necessary basic skills may enroll in the program. TLC provides continuing support once students are enrolled in technical training.

The Learning Center is a student-oriented lab that changes with the current needs of students and offers the resources necessary to help students become workplace-ready.

TLC Services:

Retesting preparation for entrance into Erwin's programs

  • GED (General Education Development) preparation
  • Assistance for Hearing Impaired and Learning Disabled students
  • Continued academic support for students enrolled in technical training
  • Computer Literacy, Keyboarding, and Internet Access
  • Technical Math
  • Employability Services
  • Career Planning
  • ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) Services

The Learning Center offers flexible scheduling for busy adults. Enrollment is open entry, open exit. All instruction is individualized and self-paced. Day and evening classes are available as follows:

  • Monday - Thursday - 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.; 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
  • Friday - 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Program for the Hearing Impaired

Erwin's Program for the Hearing Impaired, serving students since 1986, is designed to promote success for all hearing impaired students in their chosen programs. All technical programs, campus organizations and activities are available to hearing impaired students.

A certified instructor and a school-based interpreter provide tutorial assistance and curriculum modification for students. The program's coordinator maintains a close working relationship with Vocational Rehabilitation and other community agencies that provide services to hearing impaired students.

  • Real-Time and Captioning Services
  • Telecommunication Devices for the Deaf

Special Needs and Handicapped Students

Documented hearing impaired, visually impaired, or specific learning disabled students can be admitted to any program without meeting entrance requirements. These special needs students may require and are provided with special services.

Special needs students attend the Technical Resource Center (TRC) for remediation. The TRC staff and the program instructor use observations, testing, evaluations, and alternative assessment as means to track a student's progress.

Designated parking, elevator access, and wheelchair ramps at all entry ways into the building are provided.

CARIBE Program

The Career Recruitment and Instruction in Basic English (CARIBE) program is an Adult and Community Education project offering free English language, GED, and Hi-Tec vocational training to recent entrants from Cuba, Haiti, Columbia, Afghanistan, Vietnam and other entrants with refugee or asylee status.
